The joys and sorrows of getting overseas magazines delivered to Australia

In today’s global internet connected world, there’s not many things that annoy me more than going to a magazine’s website intending to subscribe, only to find that they don’t deliver to Australia. It’s not like it’s a difficult thing to do, the postal service will happily deliver magazines around the world for a reasonable fee, and Paypal and Visa will take care of currency conversions.

In this case, I’m particularly referring to Vogue Knitting. I can buy copies at high prices from local knitting websites, but why on earth can’t I purchase direct from the publisher!

If you’re in Australia and you’re looking for Vogue Knitting, the best deal I have found so far is to purchase individual copies from The Knitting Loft at $14.40 (including postage). But when Americans get to pay about $20 for a year’s subscription, there has to be a better way.

Once I actually manage to get my hands on a copy, we’ll see how good it is. If the patterns are anything like the preview, we’re in for a treat. Knitwear is huge this winter and comfy and warm too (two words that are not always associated with the latest fashion trends).

And yes, your eagle eye has detected the word “knitting” in this post. Soon we’ll be covering creating your own designer garments and accessories by knitting as well as sewing. And even a bit of crochet too when there’s something especially special to make. So stay tuned for more designer hand crafted clothing coming your way very soon (even sooner if I could persuade Vogue Knitting that money from Australia is just as good as American).
